Nursery

Our Nursery

The nursery space is open plan with cosy corners created with furniture to form our areas for continuous provision. Children will spend lots of their time in the nursery freely choosing the areas where they would like to play.

Our indoor spaces include

  • Building in block play
  • Maths area
  • Book corner
  • Message Centre – for emergent writing and mark making
  • Home corner
  • Sand and water play
  • Workshop – for junk modelling, crafting and painting.
  • Dough station

We are incredibly lucky to have three outdoor spaces.

Move it - This is an undercover area where children are encouraged to be active and develop big movements and core strength. Here they can access a climbing frame, balance toys and bikes, this is also where children can explore big mark making on our chalk board and easels.. Children often act out the stories which we are learning in this area and play collaborative chasing and running games. The children explore rhythm using the basket of instruments and they have quiet nooks to enjoy a book.

Adventure Island – offers potential for imaginary play through the different areas and the ‘secret symbols’ and objects which are created by the adults. There is a wealth of sensory exploration within the mud kitchen and the water system, gravel and sand pit. A challenging climbing frame to encourage safe risk taking as well as large mark making walls and capacity and mass exploration through our balance scales and pulley system.

The Wonder Wood – this is our little orchard, sensory garden, hedge tunnel and grassy bank where we use the principles of Forest School to play and learn. Children meet Sage the woodland sprite puppet who might have a book, a letter or a problem to solve. The children enjoy the freedom of the space to explore and also to come together as a smaller group around a story or a campfire to feel a sense of place and belonging.

All of our spaces have been carefully planned and designed to maximise language skills and communication between children with their peers and adults.  Adults are active play partners who love to get involved and extend learning through high quality interactions.

Children enjoy messy play, so we encourage parents/carers to dress them in clothes they don’t mind getting wet and dirty.

Jumpers and cardigans with our nursery logo on are available to buy from the office via our online payment system; this is an optional uniform for nursery children.

Nursery children receive a snack during the day; sometimes this will be a sandwich they make themselves, or different fruits and vegetables or other healthy snacks that fit in with celebrations taking place.    As well as allowing children to experience new tastes, this also encourages them to be independent by pouring their drink and accessing the food that is on offer.

Nursery children also receive free milk, and fruit as part of the government healthy eating scheme.
